Remote Access Technology using Liberty and the BlackBerry

Why Remote Access?

As organizations and business becomes more global, there is ongoing and increasing pressure for mobility of the workforce. As mobile workforce demands increase, remote access is typically needed for email, working with files, and intranet based applications.

How is Remote Access done today?

Typically large corporations turn to VPNs (like IPSEC and SSL ) and virtual machines (like Citrix or VMWare ) to enable remote access for both employees as well as offshore and nearshore resources.

How does Liberty disrupt this?

Liberty extends and takes advantage of the BES and MDS infrastructure many large corporations have put in place for the BlackBerry by creating an encrypted virtual tunnel between the Liberty Key and the BlackBerry.

With the Liberty virtual tunnel in place, the BlackBerry ‘becomes the VPN’ for the desktop and the Liberty virtual tunnel becomes the new desktop remote access technology. With this paradigm shift, the desktop essentially becomes sacrificial and more or less becomes a docking station for the SmartPhone. This allows for organizations to drive towards end-point independence.
